Urinaalijärjestelmän, known in English as the urinary system, refers to the organs responsible for producing, storing, and eliminating urine. This vital system plays a crucial role in maintaining the body's fluid balance, regulating blood pressure, and removing waste products. The primary components of the urinaalijärjestelmän include the kidneys, ureters, urinary bladder, and urethra.

The kidneys are bean-shaped organs located on either side of the spine. Their main function is to filter blood, removing waste products such as urea and excess salts, and to produce urine. This filtration process also helps regulate electrolyte levels and blood pH. From the kidneys, urine travels down through two tubes called ureters. These narrow tubes transport urine to the urinary bladder.

The urinary bladder is a hollow, muscular organ that stores urine. Its walls are capable of stretching to accommodate varying amounts of fluid. When the bladder is full, signals are sent to the brain, creating the urge to urinate. The final component is the urethra, a tube that carries urine from the bladder out of the body. The length and function of the urethra differ between sexes. In males, it also serves as a passageway for semen. The coordinated action of these organs ensures the efficient removal of metabolic waste and the maintenance of overall health.
