Urethanecoated

Urethane-coated refers to surfaces that have been finished with a polyurethane-based coating. These coatings use polyurethane resins formed by reacting polyols with diisocyanates to create a tough, flexible film that bonds to the substrate.

Coatings come in several formulations, including single-component moisture-curing systems, two-component reactive systems, waterborne, solvent-borne, and UV-curable variants. Aliphatic polyurethanes offer better UV stability and color retention, while aromatic polyurethanes typically provide superior hardness and chemical resistance but may yellow over time.

Common applications include wood floor finishes, cabinetry, automotive and aerospace interiors, metal protection, concrete sealants, and protective coatings for textiles and leather. They are used on wood, metal, concrete, and many plastics, as well as some fabrics and composites.

Urethane coatings provide abrasion and impact resistance, chemical resistance, and weatherability, with the option to tune hardness and flexibility through formulation. Film thickness varies by use and typically ranges from tens to a few hundred micrometers. Finish can be glossy to satin.

Application methods include brushing, rolling, dipping, or spraying, followed by cure times that may involve ambient moisture or heat. Health and safety concerns center on isocyanates, which can cause sensitization; proper ventilation and protective equipment are recommended.
