Upphafinn

Upphafinn is a term from Norse mythology that refers to the primeval void or emptiness from which the cosmos eventually emerged. It is often described as a chaotic and unformed expanse, existing before the creation of the world and the gods. In some accounts, Upphafinn is synonymous with Ginnungagap, the yawning abyss.

The concept of Upphafinn is fundamental to the Norse creation myth. According to the Poetic Edda, particularly the Völuspá, the world began to take shape when fire from Muspelheim and ice from Niflheim met and mingled within Upphafinn. This interaction is said to have led to the formation of the first living being, the giant Ymir, and the cow Auðumbla.
