Upatan

Upatan is a small village located in the northern part of Maharashtra, India, within the administrative boundaries of the Ahmednagar district. The village lies approximately 42 kilometres to the north of the district headquarters and sits at an elevation of about 500 metres above sea level. The surrounding landscape is characterized by undulating hills and patches of scrub forest, part of the Deccan Plateau.

The population of Upatan, according to the most recent census data, totals around 1,200 residents. Hindi and Marathi are the primary languages spoken, with Urdu also present among a minority of households. The demographic composition is largely agrarian, reflecting the village’s reliance on farming for subsistence and local trade.

Agriculture forms the backbone of the local economy. Major crops cultivated in Upatan include wheat, barley, and pulses during the winter season, while groundnuts and sugarcane are grown during the monsoon.
