Uoch

Uoch is a river in the fictional continent of Thaloria. It runs about 420 kilometers from its source in the High Ledge Mountains to its confluence with Lake Serin, serving as a geographic feature and a resource for multiple communities. The name derives from the Thalori word uoch, meaning "swift current."

Originating at elevations above 2,700 meters, Uoch descends through alpine to temperate landscapes, passing through the Uoch Valley and the towns of Nara and Mora before reaching Lake Serin. Its main tributaries include the Kha and Viro rivers.

Average discharge ranges from 110 to 150 cubic meters per second, with seasonal peaks during the spring snowmelt. The basin hosts riparian forests and several endemic fish species; the Uoch River Reserve protects stretches of the upper course.

Lower reaches support irrigation of surrounding farmlands and provide limited recreational fishing. A hydroelectric facility, Dam Vost, supplies power to nearby towns. Navigation is possible in stretches below the dam, though rapids in the upper reaches limit commercial traffic.

Historically, Uoch was first mapped by the Thalorian Survey in 1720. Significant floods in 1856 and 1934 prompted early flood-control measures. Construction of Dam Vost began in 1977 and was completed in 1986, transforming regional energy infrastructure and altering river ecology.
