Unquoting

Unquoting refers to the process of removing quotation marks from a piece of text. This can be done for various reasons, such as when a direct quote is no longer needed in its original form or when the quotation marks are considered redundant. In programming, unquoting is a specific operation within macro systems, particularly in languages like Lisp. In this context, unquoting is the inverse of quoting. Quoting typically prevents the evaluation of an expression, treating it as data. Unquoting, conversely, takes an expression that was previously quoted (treated as data) and allows it to be evaluated as code.

This distinction is crucial for creating dynamic and flexible code. For example, in a macro that constructs new code, one might quote a piece of code to include it literally, and then unquote another part to insert a variable or the result of a computation into that code before it is evaluated.
