Ultralargeformat refers to photographic film or digital sensors that are significantly larger than standard professional formats. While traditional large format photography typically involves film sizes of 4x5 inches or larger, ultralargeformat pushes these dimensions considerably further, often exceeding 8x10 inches and extending to sizes measured in feet.

The primary advantage of ultralargeformat is its ability to capture an immense level of detail and tonal range. The larger surface area of the film or sensor allows for greater light-gathering capability and a reduced grain structure (in film) or pixel size relative to the overall image area (in digital). Cameras are typically view cameras, offering extensive control over perspective and focus through movements like tilt and shift.
