Ullisia

Ullisia is a genus of extinct marine reptiles belonging to the family Pliosauridae, a group of plesiosaurs characterized by their short necks and large heads. Fossils of ullisia have been discovered in England, primarily from the Jurassic period. These marine predators were apex predators in their ancient ecosystems, with powerful jaws and sharp teeth adapted for hunting fish, squid, and other marine creatures.

The genus ullisia was first described in 1921, based on fossil remains found in the Oxford Clay formation. The type species, *Ullisia grandis*, is known from several partial skeletons. These remains indicate an animal that could reach lengths of up to 10 meters. Like other pliosaurs, ullisia possessed four large flippers, which would have propelled it through the water with significant speed and agility.

The discovery of ullisia provides valuable insights into the diversity and evolution of marine reptiles during the Mesozoic Era. Its existence highlights the successful adaptation of plesiosaurs to various marine environments and their dominance as top predators for millions of years.
