U155

U-155 was a Type IXB U-boat of Nazi Germany's Kriegsmarine during World War II. The submarine was built by Deutsche Werft in Hamburg, Germany, and launched on 20 August 1941. It was commissioned on 7 October 1941 under the command of Kapitänleutnant Johann Jebsen.

During its service with the Kriegsmarine, U-155 was part of U-boat Flotilla 10, which operated in the South Atlantic and the Americas. The submarine conducted five patrols during the war, sinking 27 Allied ships totaling 84,721 tons. Some of its notable victims include the British freighter Empire Torment and the American cargo ship Maron.

U-155 was the most successful U-boat on the Atlantic convoy routes, and was reportedly one of Germany's most prolific and experienced U-boat commanders. Johann Jebsen was captured by the British in 1945 and died while imprisoned, another officer replaced him briefly before operations began to dwindle.

U-155 was eventually scuttled by the Germans in May 1942 off the coast of Brazil to prevent its capture by the Allies. Some sources suggest that the U-boat might have been sunk by design, with some accounts stating that the crew may not have initiated the self-destruction procedure.
