Tímabeltum

Tímabeltum is a fictional genus of flowering plants introduced in speculative botanical literature. In this context it is described as part of the family Asteraceae and the tribe Cichorieae, with a small number of species. The name is a constructed Latin-style term intended to resemble real botanical names.

Description and taxonomy: The genus is portrayed as herbaceous annuals or short-lived perennials, generally 8–30 cm tall. Leaves are alternate and lanceolate with serrated margins. The inflorescences are terminal heads containing ligulate ray florets that are yellow or pale orange; disk florets are absent. The involucre is formed of green bracts, and the fruit is an achene with a light, hairy pappus.

Species: Two described species are tímabeltum alba and tímabeltum luteum, differing mainly in ray-floret coloration and leaf texture.

Distribution and habitat: Tímabeltum is described as endemic to cool, moist cloud forests of the fictional Montara Highlands, at elevations around 1,500–2,600 meters.

Ecology: Pollination is attributed to bees and hoverflies; seed dispersal by wind; germination favored by moist soil and dappled shade. The genus is described as moderately drought-tolerant once established.

Uses and cultivation: In the speculative literature, tímabeltum is noted as an ornamental plant with pale-to-bright flowers. In cultivation, it is suggested to grow in well-drained soil, partial shade, and cool to temperate climates; propagation is by seeds.
