Tähtäinkuvaa

Tähtäinkuvaa is a Finnish term that translates to "sight picture" or "aiming picture" in English. It refers to the visual alignment of the front sight, rear sight, and the target as observed by a shooter when preparing to fire a firearm. Achieving a correct tähtäinkuvaa is a fundamental aspect of accurate shooting.

The process involves placing the front sight post precisely within the notch of the rear sight. The top of the front sight should be level with the top of the rear sight, and there should be an equal amount of space on either side of the front sight within the rear sight notch. Once this sight alignment is established, the shooter then superimposes this aligned sight picture onto the intended point of impact on the target.

The quality of the tähtäinkuvaa directly impacts the accuracy of the shot. Small deviations in sight alignment can result in significant misses, especially at longer distances. Shooters train to consistently achieve a clear and precise tähtäinkuvaa before and during the trigger pull.
