Työnhakuaikaan

Työnhakuaikaan refers to the period of time when an individual is actively seeking employment or engaging in work that is likely to lead to permanent employment in Finland. This concept is deeply rooted in the employment policies of Finland, particularly in the context of the unemployment benefits provided by the country's social insurance system.

As part of Finland's social security system, unemployment benefits are designed to be received by individuals who are actively seeking employment, and are currently receiving a fixed amount of state-provided financial support. This benefit, known as "työnhakijan tukiraha" in Finnish, is a basic income subsidy that is aimed at maintaining a minimum standard of living for individuals between employment periods.

In order to qualify for unemployment benefits, an individual must register at the local employment office, specifying their skills, education, and any relevant previous work experience. They must also be actively pursuing job opportunities and be willing to accept employment or training as soon as possible. The duration and amount of the unemployment benefit may vary depending on individual circumstances and the type of job being sought.

It is worth noting that the concept of "työnhakuaikaan" essentially replaces unemployment benefits under the old employment insurance scheme. The rationale behind this change was to provide unemployed people specific unemployment allowance as they carry out employment services set by the employment and economic development office. This shift came into effect from 2016 in Finland.
