Työmaatarkastukset

Työmaatarkastukset are workplace inspections conducted in Finland to ensure occupational safety and health. These inspections are carried out by the occupational safety and health authorities, primarily the Regional State Administrative Agencies (Aluehallintovirastot), often referred to as AVI. The purpose of these inspections is to monitor compliance with legislation related to occupational safety and health, promote safe working conditions, and prevent work-related accidents and illnesses.

Työmaatarkastukset can be unannounced or announced and are conducted across various workplaces, including construction sites, industrial facilities, offices, and service sectors. Inspectors examine the working environment, equipment, work processes, and safety procedures to identify potential hazards and risks. They may also interview employees and employers to gather information.

Following an inspection, if violations are found, the inspector can issue improvement orders, fines, or even prohibit certain activities. The aim is not solely punitive but to guide employers towards rectifying any deficiencies and establishing a safer work environment. Regular workplace inspections are a crucial part of the Finnish system for promoting a culture of safety and ensuring the well-being of workers.
