Twinhistidine
Twinhistidine is a term used in biochemistry and molecular biology to refer to two histidine residues that are positioned close to each other within a protein's three-dimensional structure. These histidines can be located on the same polypeptide chain, in which case they are often referred to as a "histidine pair" or a "proximal histidine" and "distal histidine" depending on their relative positions. Alternatively, they can be located on different polypeptide chains that interact to form a protein complex.
The close proximity of two histidine residues can lead to unique chemical properties and functional roles.
In some proteins, such as hemoglobin and myoglobin, a proximal histidine residue binds directly to the heme
