Tutankhaten

Tutankhaten was an early name for an Egyptian pharaoh who later became known as Tutankhamun. He was the son of Akhenaten, the pharaoh who initiated a monotheistic religious revolution centered on the worship of the Aten, the sun disk. Tutankhaten's reign followed that of his father and his immediate successor, Smenkhkare.

Initially, during his youth and early reign, the pharaoh was named Tutankhaten, meaning "Living Image of the Aten." This name reflected his father's religious reforms and the prominent position of the Aten in Egyptian worship. However, after ascending to the throne, a significant shift occurred. The traditional polytheistic religion, suppressed by Akhenaten, began to be restored.

As part of this religious restoration, Tutankhaten changed his name to Tutankhamun, which translates to "Living Image of Amun." Amun was a principal deity in the traditional Egyptian pantheon. This name change symbolized a rejection of his father's radical religious policies and a return to the established religious order. The transition from Tutankhaten to Tutankhamun marks a pivotal moment in his reign and in the religious history of ancient Egypt.
