Tulonkasvu, or bulb growth, refers to the development of new plant structures from bulbs, which are modified underground stems that store nutrients and water. Bulbs are common in many plant species, particularly in the families Amaryllidaceae, Liliaceae, and Alliaceae. They play a crucial role in the life cycle of these plants, enabling them to survive adverse conditions such as drought or cold by entering a dormant state.

The growth process of tulonkasvu typically begins in spring or early summer, depending on the species and climate. As environmental conditions improve, the bulb releases stored energy to initiate sprouting. This involves the emergence of a shoot, which eventually develops into a leafy stem and flowers. The bulb itself may also expand, forming new layers of storage tissue for the following year’s growth.
