Tulehtuneita

Tulehtuneita is a Finnish term used in medical or descriptive Finnish to refer to things that are inflamed. It is the plural partitive form of the adjective tulehtunut, which means inflamed. In Finnish-language medical texts, tulehtuneita may describe tissues, organs, or lesions that show inflammation.

Inflammation is the body's protective response to injury, infection, or irritation. It involves changes in blood flow and immune activity aimed at eliminating the cause of damage and beginning tissue repair. Common signs of inflammation include redness, heat, swelling, pain, and, in some cases, loss of function. Inflammation can be acute, arising quickly and resolving within days, or chronic, persisting for weeks or months and potentially contributing to tissue damage.

Causes are varied and include infections (bacteria, viruses, fungi), physical injury, chemical irritants, allergens, and autoimmune disorders. The underlying mechanisms involve immune cell activation and the release of mediators such as histamine, prostaglandins, and cytokines, which increase vascular permeability and recruit white blood cells to the affected area.

Diagnosis is typically clinical, based on the appearance and history of the affected site. In some cases, additional information from laboratory tests (for example, C-reactive protein or erythrocyte sedimentation rate), imaging, or tissue biopsy may be used to determine the cause and extent of inflammation.

Treatment depends on the underlying cause. General approaches include anti-inflammatory medications (such as NSAIDs), analgesia, and wound care for injuries. Infections may require antibiotics, while autoimmune or chronic inflammatory conditions may need corticosteroids or disease-modifying therapies. Prevention focuses on reducing exposure to irritants, treating infections promptly, and managing chronic conditions.
