Tuberkulinszár

The term "tuberkulinszár" is a Hungarian word that translates directly to "tuberculin clamp" or "tuberculin syringe". Historically, this term referred to a specific type of syringe used for administering the tuberculin test, a diagnostic test for tuberculosis. The tuberculin test, also known as the Mantoux test or PPD test, involves injecting a small amount of purified protein derivative (PPD) tuberculin intradermally. The reaction at the injection site is then measured after a period of time to determine if a person has been infected with Mycobacterium tuberculosis.

Tuberkulinszár syringes were designed to deliver a precise volume of tuberculin for accurate intradermal injection. These syringes often featured a short, fine-gauge needle and markings to ensure accurate dosage. While the principle of the tuberculin test remains the same, modern medical practices have largely moved towards disposable, pre-filled syringes or standard syringes with specialized needles for the Mantoux test.
