The name "Tritiumilla" is derived from the Greek words "tritios" meaning "third" and "milla" meaning "mill," reflecting the genus' intermediate size within the family.

Species within the genus Tritiumilla are typically found in slow-moving or stagnant freshwater habitats, such as ponds, lakes, and slow-moving rivers. They are known for their distinctive, elongated shells with a smooth, glossy surface. The shells are usually brown or reddish-brown in color, with a prominent, spiral growth line.
