Trigometric

Trigometric is an adjective related to trigonometry, the branch of mathematics studying relations between angles and triangle sides. The standard spelling is trigonometric, but trigometric appears in some older or nonstandard texts and is not a separate field.

Core concepts include the six trigonometric functions: sine, cosine, tangent and their reciprocals cosecant, secant, and cotangent. These can be defined in a right triangle or on the unit circle and relate angle measures to side lengths. Angles are measured in radians in higher math, though degrees remain common in many settings.

Identities and formulas are essential tools. Notable examples include the Pythagorean identity sin^2 x + cos^2 x = 1, the addition formulas, and the double-angle formulas. These enable simplifying expressions, solving triangles, and analyzing periodic phenomena.

Applications span physics, engineering, computer science, astronomy, and navigation. Trigonometric methods model waves, rotations, oscillations, and signal processing.

Historically, trigonometry has roots in ancient Greek, Indian, and Islamic mathematics, with later refinements in Europe during the Scientific Revolution.
