Tricliininen

Tricliininen refers to a crystal system in crystallography. It is characterized by three unequal crystallographic axes that are all oblique to each other. This means that the angles between the axes are not 90 degrees, and the lengths of the axes are also different. The triclinic system is the least symmetrical of the seven crystal systems.

Crystals in the triclinic system lack any rotational symmetry and do not possess mirror planes or centers of symmetry. Due to this low symmetry, triclinic crystals are often irregular in shape. However, they can still exhibit well-defined crystal faces, albeit with unique geometrical relationships between them. Examples of minerals that crystallize in the triclinic system include plagioclase feldspars, kyanite, and axinite. The unit cell of a triclinic crystal is defined by three lattice parameters: the lengths of the crystallographic axes (a, b, c) and the angles between them (alpha, beta, gamma), where a ≠ b ≠ c and α ≠ β ≠ γ ≠ 90°. The unique symmetry properties of the triclinic system influence the physical properties of the crystals, such as their optical behavior and cleavage patterns.
