Transversalkomponenten

Transversalkomponenten refer to components of a vector that are perpendicular to a specific direction. In physics and engineering, this concept is often used when analyzing forces, velocities, or fields. When a vector is decomposed into its components, one common approach is to resolve it along a set of orthogonal axes. If one axis is designated as the primary or longitudinal direction, then the components of the vector lying along axes perpendicular to this primary direction are called transversalkomponenten.

For example, imagine a projectile launched at an angle. The velocity vector can be decomposed into a horizontal component and a vertical component. If we consider the horizontal direction as longitudinal, then the vertical component of the velocity would be a transversalkomponente. Similarly, in the study of waves, the displacement of particles in a medium can have longitudinal components (parallel to the wave's direction of propagation) and transverse components (perpendicular to the wave's direction of propagation).
