Transportprotokoller

Transportprotokoller, also known as transport layer protocols, are communication protocols that provide end-to-end or host-to-host communication services for applications. They are responsible for ensuring reliable data transfer between applications running on different hosts. Transportprotokoller operate at the fourth layer of the OSI model, the transport layer, and are essential for maintaining the integrity, order, and flow of data.

The most well-known transportprotokoller are the Transmission Control Protocol (TCP) and the User Datagram Protocol (UDP). TCP is a connection-oriented protocol that provides reliable, ordered, and error-checked delivery of a stream of bytes between applications. It uses a three-way handshake to establish a connection and includes mechanisms for flow control and congestion avoidance. UDP, on the other hand, is a connectionless protocol that offers a best-effort delivery service. It does not guarantee delivery, ordering, or error-checking, making it faster and more efficient for applications that can tolerate some data loss, such as streaming audio or video.

Other transportprotokoller include the Stream Control Transmission Protocol (SCTP), which is used for signaling in telecommunications networks, and the Datagram Congestion Control Protocol (DCCP), which provides a way to maintain low-latency and low-loss services. These protocols are designed to meet the specific requirements of different types of applications and network conditions.
