Transportatori
Transportatori is a plural term used in several Romance languages, notably Italian and Romanian, to refer to entities that perform transport or conveyance. In biology, transportatori (transporters) are membrane proteins that move substrates across cellular membranes. They include channels that allow passive diffusion, and pumps and carriers that enable active transport. Transport can be passive, driven by concentration or electrochemical gradients, or active, requiring energy input such as ATP or a secondary energy source. Transport proteins are essential for nutrient uptake, waste removal, and intercellular signaling. Families include facilitated transporters (such as glucose transporters), ATP-binding cassette (ABC) transporters, and solute carrier (SLC) transporters. Regulation occurs at transcriptional, post-translational, and cellular levels, with tissue-specific expression shaping metabolic capabilities.
In logistics and industry, transportatori refer to carriers that move goods or passengers. This includes transportation
Etymology: the term derives from Latin trans-, "across," and portare, "to carry."
