Transpiring
Transpiring refers primarily to the biological process by which plants and some microorganisms lose water vapor from aerial parts, mainly through microscopic openings called stomata. Water absorbed by roots moves through xylem to leaves and evaporates from cell surfaces into intercellular air spaces before diffusing out through stomata. This process drives the transpiration stream, aiding upward water transport and enabling nutrient distribution from roots to shoots.
Transpiration serves multiple functions: it helps regulate leaf temperature through evaporative cooling, maintains turgor pressure necessary
Measurement techniques for transpiration include porometry and gas exchange analysis for stomatal conductance, sap flow sensors
