Translaterat

Translaterat is a term encountered in some languages, notably in historical or bibliographic contexts, to indicate that a text has been translated from a source language into a target language. It functions as an adjective or label applied to works in catalogs, databases, or scholarly articles to distinguish translations from originals. The form and precise meaning vary by language and era, and in contemporary Swedish and many other Scandinavian languages the more common word for "translated" is the native översatt; as a result, translaterat appears chiefly in older writings or in specialized archives.

Etymology: The term derives from the Latin translatus "carried across," via the verb translate; it shares its root with the English "translate" and related terms such as transliteration. In some linguistic or bibliographic traditions, Latin- or Latin-derived participles were used as general descriptors for translated works, before modern standardization.

Because the term is not universally standardized, readers should consult the source language's conventions to interpret it correctly.
