Transkripsjonsalfabeter

Transkripsjonsalfabeter, also known as phonetic alphabets or transcription alphabets, are systems of symbols designed to represent spoken sounds in a consistent and unambiguous manner. Unlike regular alphabets which often have multiple pronunciations for a single letter or digraphs representing a single sound, transcription alphabets aim for a one-to-one correspondence between a symbol and a specific phoneme. This is crucial in fields such as linguistics, phonetics, speech therapy, and lexicography where precise representation of pronunciation is essential.

The International Phonetic Alphabet (IPA) is the most widely recognized and used transcription alphabet. Developed by the International Phonetic Association, the IPA provides a standardized set of symbols that can represent virtually any sound found in human languages. Each symbol in the IPA corresponds to a distinct phonetic feature, allowing for detailed and accurate transcription of speech.
