Transdisciplinær

Transdisciplinær is an approach to research and problem-solving that integrates knowledge and methods from multiple academic disciplines as well as non-academic stakeholders. Unlike multidisciplinary or interdisciplinary approaches, transdisciplinarity aims to transcend traditional disciplinary boundaries by not only combining different fields of study but also by engaging with societal actors and their practical knowledge. The goal is to address complex, real-world problems that cannot be adequately understood or solved within the confines of a single discipline or even a combination of them.

This approach often involves collaboration between researchers from diverse academic backgrounds, such as natural sciences, social sciences, and humanities, along with practitioners, policymakers, community members, and other stakeholders. The process of transdisciplinarity involves co-creation of knowledge, where different perspectives and forms of expertise are valued and contribute to a shared understanding and the development of solutions. It emphasizes dialogue, mutual learning, and the integration of different ways of knowing to generate holistic and actionable insights. Transdisciplinarity is particularly relevant for tackling wicked problems, which are characterized by their complexity, uncertainty, and interconnectedness.
