Tracertyyppejä refers to different types of traceroute utilities. Traceroute is a network diagnostic tool used to observe the packets' journey across an Internet Protocol network. It achieves this by sending Internet Control Message Protocol (ICMP) echo requests or User Datagram Protocol (UDP) datagrams to a destination host. The tool records the time it takes for each packet to reach intermediate routers and be returned to the source. This information helps identify network bottlenecks, routing loops, and the path packets take to reach a specific destination.

There are several variations of traceroute, often distinguished by the protocol they use or their operating system implementation. The original `traceroute` command is typically found on Unix-like systems (Linux, macOS). It commonly uses UDP datagrams. On Windows systems, the equivalent command is `tracert`, which primarily uses ICMP echo requests. Another variation, `mtr` (My Traceroute), combines the functionality of ping and traceroute into a single tool, providing a continuous and more dynamic view of network connectivity. While the underlying goal is the same – mapping network paths – these different tracertyyppejä can sometimes yield slightly different results due to variations in how routers handle ICMP and UDP traffic, and how firewalls are configured. Understanding these differences can be crucial for accurate network troubleshooting.
