Born in Rome on 27 September 1976, he progressed through Roma’s youth system and made his first-team debut in 1993 at age 16. Over 24 seasons with the club, he became Roma’s all-time top scorer in competitive matches and its record appearance maker, with 307 goals in 786 official games. A versatile forward and playmaker, he was noted for his technical skill, vision, and leadership, and helped Roma win the Serie A title in 2000-01 along with multiple domestic trophies.
