Tkiva

Tkiva is a plural noun in several South Slavic languages, most commonly Croatian, Bosnian and Serbian, meaning tissues. The singular form is tkivo, used to refer to a single tissue. As in English, tkiva is used in biology to describe groups of cells that cooperate to perform a specific function in an organism.

In anatomy and histology, tkiva are the building blocks of organs and organ systems. The main tissue types in animals are epithelial, connective, muscle, and nervous tissue, each with distinctive structure and roles. Plants also have tissue categories such as dermal, vascular, and ground tissue, though the exact terminology can vary by language.
