Titrausliuokset

Titrausliuokset, also known as titrants, are solutions of precisely known concentration used in titration. Titration is a common laboratory method used to determine the concentration of an unknown solution, called the analyte, by reacting it with a solution of known concentration, the titrant. The titrant is added to the analyte gradually until the reaction between them is complete. This point of completion is called the equivalence point.

The accuracy of a titration heavily relies on the precise concentration of the titrant. Therefore, titrausliuokset are often prepared from primary standards, which are highly pure substances that can be weighed accurately. Alternatively, titrausliuokset can be standardized by titrating them against a primary standard or another solution of known concentration.

Common examples of titrausliuokset include solutions of acids, bases, oxidizing agents, and reducing agents. For instance, in an acid-base titration, a base solution of known concentration might be used as the titrant to determine the concentration of an unknown acid solution. Similarly, in redox titrations, a solution of a known oxidizing agent can be used to determine the concentration of a reducing agent, and vice versa. The choice of titrant depends on the specific chemical reaction being utilized in the titration. Indicators are often used to visually signal the completion of the reaction, allowing for precise determination of the equivalence point and thus the concentration of the analyte.
