Tirupur

Tiruppur, also spelled Tirupur, is a city and the district headquarters of Tiruppur district in the Indian state of Tamil Nadu. It is widely recognized as the Knitwear Capital of India due to its large-scale knitwear and garment manufacturing and export industry. The city lies on the banks of the Noyyal River, about 50–60 kilometers east of Coimbatore, and is part of the Kongu Nadu region.

Tiruppur's economy is dominated by textiles. Thousands of small and medium knitting units, dyeing and finishing facilities, and garment exporters form a dense supply chain that produces ready-made garments for global markets. Exports reach the United States and the European Union, among others. The Tiruppur Exporters Association plays a key coordinating role for industry standards and trade.

Administratively, Tiruppur is the headquarters of Tiruppur district, which was formed in 2009 by bifurcating from Coimbatore district. The city is governed by the Tiruppur Municipal Corporation and serves as a regional hub for commerce, logistics, and education.

Transport connections include rail service through Tiruppur railway station, road links to Coimbatore and other cities via national and state highways, and access to Coimbatore International Airport for air travel. Environmental and regulatory concerns related to textile processing have driven initiatives to improve wastewater treatment and cleaner production practices. The city remains a major hub in Tamil Nadu's textile industry, contributing significantly to the state's economy.
