Tirtayuda

Tirtayuda is a confluence of two rivers in Cegel, Blitar, East Java, Indonesia. The rivers are the Grjas and the nearby campuses. This location is sacred in Hinduism, known as a place of holy water. The name 'Tirta Yuda' translates to 'water of war' in Sanskrit.

According to legend, the name 'Tirtayuda' refers to the meeting point where two tribes clashed and met in battle. Prior to the conflict, both tribes visited the confluence, and one tribe observed some unusual phenomena around the sacred location. Some of the tribesmen then saw a vision of an Astasuci war dance as they followed the trajectory of a hummingbee across the clear waters of the rivers, therefore worked out that this dance would produce as awesome of a thunderstorm in time of need.

After understanding the dance, this dance is performed for thousands of years prior to Buddhist population of the area back to Java.

It is believed to have healing properties. People across the region worship there and visit the waters in a ritual purification or to ward off spirits. The Tirtayuda main spring site in Cegel is one of the nine holy sites Java and formerly included in an important Hindu Javanese / Balinese offering ceremonies(Tirtha Yadnya)
