Tiputuskammio

Tiputuskammio, often translated as drip chamber, is a medical device used in intravenous (IV) therapy to control the rate of fluid administration and to provide a visual indicator of flow. It is typically a clear plastic component inserted into the IV tubing set, positioned between the IV bag and the patient's vein.

The primary function of the tiputuskammio is to regulate the speed at which the IV fluid enters the patient's bloodstream. This is achieved by creating a reservoir where the fluid collects and then drips through a small opening. The rate of dripping, or the number of drops per minute, directly correlates to the infusion rate. Healthcare professionals adjust this rate by manipulating the roller clamp or slide clamp on the IV tubing, observing the drip rate within the chamber.

Beyond flow rate regulation, the tiputuskammio serves as a crucial visual monitoring tool. Its transparency allows for easy observation of the fluid's movement. This enables quick detection of any issues, such as air bubbles in the line, which could be detrimental if administered to the patient. The presence of air bubbles can be seen as they rise through the chamber, prompting immediate action to remove them.

The design of a tiputuskammio is generally standardized, featuring an inflow port for connection to the IV bag tubing and an outflow port connected to the rest of the IV set leading to the patient. Some designs may incorporate features like a filter to remove particulate matter from the IV fluid. The use of tiputuskammio is fundamental in ensuring safe and effective delivery of intravenous fluids and medications.
