Tilamatriisin

Tilamatriisin is a fictional location in J.R.R. Tolkien's Middle-earth legendarium. It is a region bounded by two rivers and situated in the Elfirole region of Beleriand in the First Age.

According to Tolkien's work, Tilamatriisin played a significant role in the wars against the Dark Lord Morgoth and his armies. The Silmarillion records that the valleys and hills of Tilamatriisin eventually became the frontiers of the kingdom of Doriath.

Much of what is known about Tilamatriisin is based on the information contained in The Silmarillion. Tolkien made no further explicit mention of the region in his other works The Lord of the Rings and the appendices. However, based on geographic and philological evidence, Tolkien scholar E.V. Gordon elsewhere provided some additional philosophical interpretations and possible expansion of the text.

Tolkien's linguistic notes reveal that the suffix "-isin" was a common marker in sound to indicate dwelling, indicating that Tilamatriisin likely refers to the abode or dwelling of some saint or virtuous personed dwelling in the region. Linguistic speculation suggests that possible roots for the name "Tilamatriisin" may be decomposed: "tila-" means quiet/limit of; and "matriisin" representing Martyr's gnomonautical graveyard beside Halls od work chamberswithin reassembly.
