Tilaluokat

Tilaluokat, also known as "till" or "tillite," are sedimentary rocks formed from glacial deposits. They are characterized by their unsorted, poorly stratified, and often chaotic nature, consisting of a mixture of clay, silt, sand, gravel, and boulders. These deposits are typically the result of glacial melting and subsequent deposition, often in proglacial environments.

The term "till" originates from the Swedish word "till," which means "mixed" or "mud." The term "tilaluokat" is a Finnish word that translates to "till rocks." These rocks are commonly found in areas that have experienced glaciation, such as the Laurentide Ice Sheet in North America and the Scandinavian Ice Sheet in Europe.

Tilaluokat are significant in geology and paleoclimatology as they provide valuable information about past glacial activity and climate conditions. The composition and texture of till can vary widely depending on the source of the glacial material and the conditions under which it was deposited. For example, till from a continental glacier may differ significantly from that deposited by a valley glacier.
