Tijdcodeinformatie, also known as timecode, is a system used in video and audio production to synchronize and organize media files. It provides a unique identifier for each frame or segment of audio, allowing for precise editing, synchronization, and playback. Timecode is typically represented as hours, minutes, seconds, and frames (HH:MM:SS:FF), with the frame rate depending on the video format (e.g., 24, 25, 29.97, 30 frames per second).

There are two main types of timecode: linear timecode (LTC) and vertical interval timecode (VITC). LTC is embedded in the audio track of a video signal, making it ideal for audio-only applications. VITC, on the other hand, is embedded in the vertical blanking interval of a video signal, making it suitable for video-only applications. Some systems use both LTC and VITC for redundancy.

Timecode can be generated by timecode generators, which are devices that create a timecode signal, or by timecode readers, which decode an existing timecode signal. Timecode can also be embedded in media files, such as video or audio files, allowing for easy synchronization and editing.
