Thyagarajar, born Kakarla Thyagabrahmam, was one of the most important composers in the history of Carnatic music, the classical music tradition of South India. He lived from 1767 to 1847. Alongside Muthuswami Dikshitar and Syama Sastri, he is considered part of the Carnatic Trinity, a group of composers who profoundly shaped the genre.
