Theudis

Theudis was a prominent Ostrogothic nobleman who played a significant role in the Visigothic Kingdom of Hispania. He served as a general under King Amalaric and later became a powerful figure in his own right. Following Amalaric's death in 531, Theudis was elected king of the Visigoths in Hispania, marking the beginning of his reign which lasted until 548.

His reign was characterized by attempts to consolidate the kingdom and deal with internal and external challenges. Theudis is known for his legal reforms and for encouraging trade and economic development. He also faced conflicts, including a notable battle against the Franks in Septimania. The Visigothic kingdom under Theudis experienced a period of relative stability and prosperity, though it was still grappling with the complex political landscape of the post-Roman West.

Theudis's reign is considered important in the history of the Visigoths as it represented a move towards a more unified and stable kingdom in Hispania. His policies aimed to integrate the Gothic and Roman populations and establish a lasting legal framework. He died in Toledo, leaving behind a kingdom that continued to evolve under his successors.
