Theinterprétant is a term used in semiotics and linguistics to describe the third element in a semiotic process, following the sign and the object. Coined by Charles Sanders Peirce, the interprétant is not the interpreter themselves, but rather the meaning or effect that a sign produces in the mind of the interpreter.
