Termokset
Termokset is a Finnish term used to describe thermosetting plastics. These are polymers that irreversibly harden when heated, through a chemical cross-linking process. Unlike thermoplastics, which can be repeatedly melted and reshaped, thermosets maintain their shape and strength after curing. This permanent structural change is due to the formation of strong covalent bonds between polymer chains, creating a rigid, three-dimensional network.
The curing process for thermosets typically involves heat, but can also be initiated by catalysts or radiation.
