Termokastid

Termokastid are a type of insulated container designed to maintain a specific temperature for goods during transport or storage. The name "termokastid" is derived from the Greek word "thermos" meaning heat and the Latin word "castra" meaning box or case. These containers are commonly used for transporting perishable items such as food, pharmaceuticals, and biological samples that require precise temperature control to prevent spoilage or degradation.

The effectiveness of termokastid lies in their layered construction. They typically feature an outer shell made of durable materials like plastic or metal, an insulating core, and an inner lining. The insulating core is usually made of foam, such as polyurethane or polystyrene, which significantly reduces heat transfer between the inside and outside of the container. This insulation helps to keep contents either cold or warm for extended periods, depending on the initial temperature and ambient conditions.

Termokastid can be passive or active. Passive termokastid rely solely on the insulating properties of their construction and the use of phase change materials (PCMs) or ice packs to maintain temperature. Active termokastid, on the other hand, incorporate powered refrigeration or heating units to actively regulate the internal temperature, offering a higher degree of control and consistency. The choice between passive and active systems depends on the required temperature range, duration of transport, and cost considerations. They play a vital role in the supply chain for temperature-sensitive products.
