Termineringarna

Termineringarna, also known as the "Termination Wars," was a series of political and constitutional crises in Sweden during the late 1970s and early 1980s. The term refers to the government's attempts to terminate the Swedish Social Democratic Party's (SAP) monopoly on power, which had lasted since the party's formation in 1889. The crises were marked by a series of government terminations, or "termineringar," where the ruling coalition was dissolved and replaced by a new government.

The first terminering occurred in 1976 when the Social Democratic government was replaced by a coalition led by the Center Party. This was followed by a series of termineringar in 1978, 1979, and 1981, each time resulting in a new government. The termineringar were driven by a combination of factors, including economic stagnation, political polarization, and the desire for change among the Swedish electorate.

The termineringar had significant implications for Swedish politics. They led to a period of political instability and uncertainty, as well as a shift in the balance of power between the major parties.
