Terastruktuuri refers to large-scale, often artificial structures built on a planetary or even stellar scale. The term is primarily used in speculative contexts, such as science fiction, to describe megastructures that are vastly beyond current human engineering capabilities. These structures can take many forms, including orbital rings, Dyson spheres, or entire planetary modifications. The construction of such terastruktuure would require immense resources and advanced technology, often involving the manipulation of entire celestial bodies or the harvesting of stellar energy.

The concept of terastruktuuri is often explored when considering the ultimate technological advancement of a civilization, a stage sometimes referred to as a Type II or Type III civilization on the Kardashev scale. A Type II civilization could harness the total energy output of its star, potentially by building a Dyson sphere, a hypothetical megastructure that completely encompasses a star to capture its energy. A Type III civilization could control the energy output of its entire galaxy.
