Tepalon

Tepalon is a brand name for a type of fluoropolymer resin, most commonly referring to polytetrafluoroethylene (PTFE). PTFE is a synthetic fluoropolymer of tetrafluoroethylene. It is a solid polymer, and its most well-known brand name is Teflon, originally developed by DuPont. The term "tepalon" itself may be a less common or regional brand variation of PTFE.

This material is known for its unique properties, including a very low coefficient of friction, making it extremely non-stick. It is also highly resistant to heat, chemicals, and corrosion. These characteristics make it suitable for a wide range of applications.

In cookware, tepalon (as PTFE) is famously used as a non-stick coating. Beyond the kitchen, it finds use in industrial settings as a lining for pipes and containers, in electrical insulation due to its excellent dielectric properties, and in medical devices because of its biocompatibility and inertness. It is also utilized in seals, gaskets, and bearings where low friction and chemical resistance are essential. The manufacturing process involves polymerization of tetrafluoroethylene gas.
