Telajärjestelmä

Telajärjestelmä refers to a system of tracks or belts used for locomotion, most commonly seen on vehicles such as tanks, bulldozers, and snowmobiles. This system allows these vehicles to traverse difficult terrain that would be impassable for wheeled vehicles. The core components of a telajärjestelmä are the tracks themselves, which are typically made of interlocking metal or rubber segments, and the road wheels, sprockets, and idlers that guide and tension the tracks.

The tracks distribute the weight of the vehicle over a much larger surface area compared to tires. This significantly reduces ground pressure, preventing the vehicle from sinking into soft ground like mud, sand, or snow. The continuous, segmented nature of the track also provides excellent traction on uneven or slippery surfaces.
