Technolatry

Technolatry is a neologism that describes the excessive reverence or worship of technology. It suggests a tendency for individuals or societies to view technology as a source of salvation, truth, or ultimate meaning, often to the exclusion of other values or belief systems. The term implies an almost religious devotion to technological advancement and its products, where innovation is seen as inherently good and problems are invariably solved through technological means.

This veneration can manifest in various ways, from an uncritical acceptance of new gadgets and platforms to the belief that technology can solve all of humanity's problems, including social, environmental, and existential ones. Critics of technolatry often point out that it can lead to a neglect of humanistic concerns, ethical considerations, and the potential negative consequences of technological development. It may also foster a dependence on technology that diminishes human agency and critical thinking. The concept is sometimes used to critique a culture that prioritizes technological progress above all else, potentially overlooking its societal impacts.
