Taulutalkki

Taulutalkki, often referred to as blackboard chalk, is a writing implement historically used on blackboards and other slate surfaces. It is typically made from gypsum, a soft sulfate mineral. The chalk is ground into a fine powder and then mixed with water to form a paste. This paste is extruded into sticks and dried, resulting in the familiar cylindrical shape. While traditionally made from gypsum, some modern versions may incorporate calcium carbonate or other materials.

The primary function of taulutalkki is to create temporary markings that can be easily erased. Its porous nature allows it to adhere to the rough surface of a blackboard, leaving a visible line. When the writing needs to be removed, a simple eraser, often made of felt or cloth, can lift the chalk particles from the surface.
