Tartessian
Tartessian refers to a lost civilization and language that flourished in the southwestern Iberian Peninsula, particularly in what is now Andalusia, Spain, from the 9th to the 6th centuries BCE. The civilization is named after Tartessos, a legendary city or kingdom mentioned in ancient Greek and Roman texts, often associated with vast mineral wealth. Archaeological evidence suggests a sophisticated society with advanced metalworking, trade networks extending to the Eastern Mediterranean, and a distinct cultural identity.
The Tartessian language is known from a limited corpus of inscriptions found primarily on stelae and pottery.
